Hallowed Ground

During the First World War more than a million men lost their lives in the brutal and appalling conditions of trench warfare on the Western front. Their graves stretch across Belgium and Northern France, from the English Channel to the Swiss border. It is hallowed ground ..... and one of the saddest places on earth.

2014 is the 100th anniversary of the start of the war. These photos endeavour in small part to portray the terrible price of that conflict.
